The future of the footy club looks bright with up to 20 U/11 boys turning up to play on Saturday, Nangwarry were a little light on with numbers but with so many we were able to put a game together. Some great tackles were laid; high marks and accurate goal kicking were a highlight. We’ve been really impressed with a few of the older boys taking some of the younger ones under their wings, keep up the good work boys. A Big Thank you to all the Dads who are on hand to help out at Trainings and on Saturdays. The Junior Colts have been itching to go for a while now and it showed when the siren sounded. With a couple of our bigger lads in the centre square mixed with the pace and skill of our co-captains in Jake Wight and Jack Gray our forwards were given plenty of opportunities" throughout the day. As Nangwarry were a few players short we gave them a few of our boys to help out and that was much appreciated by all. At the end of the day its about everyone getting a game and having fun with their mates. Hopefully the young Nangwarry boys stick at it and things improve for them. The eagles had winners all over the ground and players were continually moved around to try and give them all a run in different positions. Best players weren"t easy to pick but the 1st best went to Luke McGregor (Denton"s Sportspower Award), 2nd Jake Wight (Subway Award), 3rd Alex Spehr (Stumpy Nilsson Award), 4th Alex Buhlmann (HFC Ladies Committee Award) and 5th Jack Gray (Hath Sport & Rec Award). Good to see our senior players all leading the way with Jack and Jake our co-captains and Luke our vice captain showing great leadership with their attack and use of the ball. Louis Brown was the best of the goal kickers with 4 or 5 goals (he tells me he got 5 but the team manager had him down as having 4 - look out Ben!!) A few things to work on this week ahead of what will be a tougher game today but a great way to begin the season. Well done boys!
The Senior colts started their season at home to an undermanned Nangwarry and won by a comfortable 25 goals. Our players showed great sportsmanship to volunteer to play for the opposition so that they could field a full side. There were great early signs from experienced senior colts and future A grade stars Brady Gibbs and Brad Wight as both were prominent early for the eagles. One of the most pleasing aspects from a coaching perspective was the desire and hunger shown by some of the new faces in the team. The Seamer
online casino twins Amos and Elijah showed bursts of pace and youngsters Brad Gard and Kai Wakeman bobbed up to kick important goals. The best players on the day were Co- Captain Jed Telfer (Denton"s Sportspower Award) who controlled the game from the midfield. Brodie Fabris was second best (Ducky"s Surf Award) for a brilliant first game for Hatherleigh in the ruck. Ben Leopold (Stumpy Nilsson Award)showed great poise across halfback for Hatherleigh and Nangwarry. Hamish Smith (HFC Ladies Committee Award) was excellent at Full back to begin with then kicked four goals after switching to the forward line and was named fourth best. Angus Altschwager (Hath Sport & Rec Steak Award) showed great leadership as he played with equal intensity for both Hatherleigh and Nangwarry. There were many more good players on the day and we will be hoping for a similar effort and result this week against a no doubt determined Tantanoola.
Fatz"s report - Well footy"s here and what a day of weather. I was pleased with our commitment to be ready to play before the game. We started ok and we"re puffing a bit because of the heat and the lack of training. With some new faces and some old faces we weren"t sure of positions as we hadn"t had a hit out so it was going to be a test. I just kept telling the boys to talk and have fun which we did not do , so we have a lot of work to do to be able to last a full game out so on the track it is this week! Most of the new players were our better players so that is pleasing to see that they are committed to have a red hot go. Best players were Kyle Bowman (Prince of Wales Hotel Award), Dan Sutherland (Beaurepaires Award), Dylan Jones (K&S Fuel Award) Ryan Bowering (Thursday Night Tea Award), Josh Bell and Tom Pegler. This week we play last years premiers so it will be a big test as a team and a team effort is required to be able to come away with a win.
After a quiet pre season and no trial games we entered our first A Grade battle against a well recruited Nangwarry team with optimism. 3 tough quarters of football had us in front at 3 quarter time by 1 solitary kick and an expected last quarter tussle was on the cards. Someone must have flicked the switch, our last quarter producing excellent team football to finally break the game open kicking 8 goals to a few points! Better players were everywhere man Jack Sully (Prince of Wales Award) , recruits Joe Ferguson-Lane (Tony Egan’s Mensland Award) and Caolan Buckley (Prince of Wales Hotel award) , old timer Beggsy ( Millicent Taxi award) and young Fish Waring. Main goal scorers for the game were Beggsy with 4 and Telf with 4. Special mention for young Brady Gibbs’s first A Grade game, he handled it very well and first year player Brett Watson up from the colts. Well done boys!
