Hatherleigh v Tantanoola
By Kelly |
Under 11’s – On a morning where it looked to be shaping up to be a real winters day, it was great to see such an excellent turnout for both sides.  The Leopold brothers in Ethan and Fletcher are really starting to find the footy, laying some great tackles and getting involved in the play around the ground. Jayden was in and under and finding some good form in the lead up to the Auskick game in Adelaide.  We’re finding it really encouraging that the boy’s confidence is growing each week and can see they are really enjoying their footy.  Awards for the week went to Ethan, Fletcher, Koby and Jayden. Well-done boys. Junior Colts  Our first real taste of winter was something different for the boys and it took a while for them to adjust to the very windy wet conditions. We started the same way we did the week before kicking many points and only 2 goals. Team work and basic wet weather footy saw us get on top as the game went on, it was a good day for the little fellas as Sam Gray, Louis Brown and Will Chay were all looking dangerous around the goals. The goal kicking improved out of sight for some reason as we kicked 9 goals 3 in the second half which was very good all things considered. 1st best player was our captain Jake Wight (Dentons award) who was handling the conditions very well in the centre of the ground and up forward. Our 2nd best player was Jacob Lang (Subway award), he was asked to make up the numbers for Tant in the first half which he did without any fuss, as the 2nd half came around we realized Tant were still one short and without any drama Jacob put his hand up to again go to the opposition, well done mate great sportsmanship and something that definitely hasn’t gone un-noticed. (you won’t be doing it again, you got to many kicks!!). 3rd best was Doug Treloar (Stumpy award) who covered a lot of ground and put himself in the right position all day by running hard and using his voice. 4th best was Will Chay (HFC Ladies committee award) who is a player we can use in any position on the ground and back to win his position, looked like he loved the conditions. 5th best was Kade Bradley (Hath Sport & Rec steak award) who chased hard and tackled hard all day and was good around goals ending up with 2.    Senior Colts –  The senior colts were at home to Tantanoola last week and they were greeted by wet and windy conditions. We started well but were inaccurate in our kicking which led to Tantanoola being on casino top early. Poor kicking at goal cost the team and Tantanoola never gave up their hard earned lead. Better players for the day were Sam Kent (Dentons award), Brodie Fabris (Duckys award), Jez Jones (Stumpy award), Ben Leopold (HFC Ladies Committee award) and Ben Lang (Hath Sport & Rec steak award). The team will need to regroup as we face a formidable side in Kongorong this Saturday at Kongorong. B Grade Best - Kyle Bowman (Prince of Wales award) Luke Haines (K&S award) James Gilbertson (Millicent Golf award) Ryan Bowering (Thursday Tea award) Ben Leopold, Tom Waring A Grade -  A good old winters day, a good old hard fought slog and a great old fashioned win. Nothing fancy and nothing flash, just hard work. We kept the ball moving forward, defended tightly and made the most of our chances to record a good win and stay alive in a very tight competition. Our defence was fantastic again only conceding 2 goals for the entire game. We were lead by BOG Mat Fabris (Somerset award), Bruce (Ginos award)and Joe Ferg (Tony Egans award) Our mids all shared the work load with big Sam Waring (Prince of Wales award) having a great game in ruck (his second efforts were great) and of course a tough day for our forwards with only Tom Bell recording more than 1 goal. It was pleasing to see us have 8 goal kickers and not rely on one individual. Today we take on an improved Kongorong side with 4 points one again vital for our season. Calcutta Results 1st Matt Fabris, 2nd Sam Waring, 3rd Marcus Bennett

Notes – Hatherleigh vs Nangwarry
By Kelly |
Under 11’s Well done to the Nangwarry boys who came and had a kick - it can be tough trying to fit into a team which trains and plays together each week, they slotted in really well and the sportsmanship shown was a real credit to our boys. Jett’s run and bounce down the wing was the highlight of the day and is showing some real confidence. Kobe once again showed dash and elusiveness kicking a pearler from the boundary, Harvey and Tommy Gray were laying some great tackles and Austin was finishing off strongly around goals. Award Winners: Jett Faulkner ($5), Austin Nettle ($5), Corey Carlson (Toy Kingdom) Congratulations and Good luck to the lads who have been selected to play at half time in the Adelaide v Hawthorn clash. Junior Colts –  The trip to Nangwarry was a good one for the boys as they had a good win which was made possible by a great team effort. It was good to see some of the younger lads in Tyson Sutherland 4th best (HFC Ladies committee award) and Michael Fabris 5th best (Hath Sport & Rec steak award) playing great games, they both continue to learn and are improving with every game. Max Telfer was our 3rd best player (Pete Walters award) and won his position all day in both the backline and up forward. Caleb Gibbs 2nd best (Stumpy award) is a player who has spent a lot of time in the backline so far this year without any complaints, he was given a chance on the ball against  Nangwarry and showed he can also be very dangerous in that position as he hit the ball hard every chance he got, well done Sauce. Luke Macgregor was named best player (Denton’s award) as he worked his way to every contest winning the ball 99% of the time. Luke’s work rate is second to none as he runs hard all day be it forward or back, well done Luke. As we come up against Tant today our kicking at goal needs to improve, we need to make the most of the opportunities we are getting in front of goal and finish the good work our backline and centre players are doing. Finally well done to Paddy Chay who played his first game of junior colts, he certainly didn’t look out of place as he gathered possessions cleanly playing on the wing, he is welcome to play with us any time he likes, well done little fella.   Senior Colts –  The boys headed to Nangwarry and approached the game with the right attitude. Everyone put in for four quarters and tried hard when taking their turn playing for the Saints. Special thanks to the online casino junior colts who helped out Nangwarry and allowed us to keep a relatively stable side for most of the day. Best players were Lewis Walker (Denton’s award), Brodie Fabris (Stumpy award), Sam Kent (Subway award), Amos Seamer (HFC Ladies committee award) and Luke MacGregor (Hath Sport & Rec steak award). The team now needs to focus on playing an improved Tantanoola side this week at home. B Grade –  Today we travelled to Nangwarry aiming to win two in a row and get the rewards with great team football and with a great start we were headed in the right direction in the first quarter. In the second we had complete control  but missed poorly on the scoreboard. In the third we continued to share the ball around and tried to put the game completely out of reach but still did not convert. In the last was the same and we probably took the foot off but eventually won. It was pleasing to have winners everywhere and two colts in Ben Leopold and Sam Kent playing well in our side. Best players were hard to pick but Tom Waring (Prince of Wales award) rucking all day and winning taps was good, Captain Haines (Millicent 4WD Systems award) again led from the front, Tom Pegler (Millicent Golf award),   Matt Childs again across half back and Casper (Thursday tea award) on his wing, the list could go on.  So now it’s on the track to freshen up to take on the ladder leaders and we are looking forward to the challenge. Good job boys, lets stick together. A Grade -  An overcast day greeted us at Nangwarry last Saturday with a few showers throughout the day. We were looking for 3 wins in a row and after a tight tussle in the first half really hit our straps in the second half to record a convincing win by 105 pts. The midfield was solid again with Giggles (Prince of Wales award), Sully (Somerset award), Faulks (K & S Fuel award), Fab (Millicent Toyota award) and Bucks all having very good games. Faulks slotted through a lazy 7 goals, Giggles and Bucks got 3 each and Telf also had a day out up forward kicking 6. Our defence worked well together with Bruce getting the nod as best of the back six, while Schulzy fitted in there well after half time. We take on Tant today, a top 3 team and as we all know we just have to keep winning. With us nearing full strength of players available, this will be a huge challenge for the group. Lets give it our all and be in front at the bell. Calcutta Results –  1st Jase Bateman, 2nd Matt Faulkner, equal 3rd Jack Sullivan and Mat Fabris.

Hatherleigh v Mt Burr
By Kelly |
U11 Footy  - After a week’s break the boys were refreshed and keen for a kick and a catch.Good numbers at training and on Saturdays are proving to gel the side and the confidence in each other is growing.  It was great to have Corey back from injury who had his eye in kicking a gem from the boundary, Tom Gray’s pressure and tackling was outstanding earning him the $5 award.  Harry played his best game of the year getting plenty of possessions (Canteen award), while Koby was in and under, and showing some dash around the goals.  The boys want to wish Joel a speedy recovery after breaking his arm during the week Junior Colts – Ideal conditions at the Burr made for a great day and the kids were off to a flyer booting 7 goals in the first quarter. The game was full of team work and hard running which saw us win comfortably. It was great to see the older kids doing their best to bring their younger teammates into the game by playing very unselfish footy. Another pleasing sign was we had 9 different goal kickers proving that sharing the ball around really does pay off. Best player awards went to Luke Macgregor (Denton’s Sportspower award), Alex Buhlmann (Stumpy award), Harry Coote (Pete Walters award), Caleb Gibbs (HFC Ladies Committee award) and Louis Brown (Hath Sport & Rec Steak award). There is still room for improvement in certain areas of our game and we continue to work on these at training.   Senior Colts –  The boys had a good win last Saturday withHath 14.6 defeating Mt Burr 9.5 Better players on the day were Ben Leopold (Denton’s Sportspower Awad) Brad Wight (Stumpy award) Lewis Walker (Subway award) Blake Bowman (HFC Ladies Committee Award) Angus Altschwager (Hath Sport & Rec Steak award) B Grade – Well we’re happy that’s the one we wanted and finally got with a great team effort. It was pleasing to see everyone up and about early setting the scene for a good day out in perfect conditions. We have had good patches in recent weeks but today we showed if we can play better for longer you get the results. With a few back in and a bit more structure to our side and the Hereford taking control of the magnets and being the chief difference, one would have to give him the best but not to be. Better players were Michael Gibson (5th best) with 6 and Luke Haines (Millicent 4WD systems/Ginos award) again leading the way, Kyle Bowman (Millicent Golf award) and the big fella Tom Waring busting his gut all game in the ruck. Also mention goes to Gibbo and Bowzer for their influence on trying to shut down their two best players. Coach forgot to mention 1st best Darren Paul (Prince of Wales award)! . So it’s back on the track to keep working on our skills and fitness to be able to string a couple together before the second round. With some extra numbers we all have to put pressure on selection to get some results. A Grade -  After another bye we faced the ladder leaders Mt Burr at the Burr. Knowing we were in for a huge battle we welcomed back Tom Agnew, Matt Faulkner and Josh Wight but were still without about 4 first choice players. The burr skipped to a 3 goal lead early on and almost for the rest of the game that’s where it stayed finally going down by about 5 goals. A few positional changes and some players with jobs to do saw a marked improvement on last week’s game against K’doo. Hopefully we will regain a few more from long term injuries in the next few weeks. Full credit to everyone last week for an improved performance and

Hatherleigh v Kalangadoo
By Kelly |
U11 Footy  - With no U11 Kalangadoo side, we were still able to field two teams. In what was more like a Thursday night training, the younger brigade were more confident with their endeavor at the ball showcasing some quality skills.  Bowie finished the day with a handful of goals, one from a long bomb out of the center. Joel, who really took the contests on and Tommy Lambert who held strong in defence had great games.  Award winners for the week: Bowie ($5) and Aus (Canteen). The boys and I really appreciate the help we get each week from the dads it makes the day run a lot smoother.  Well done to Jayden and Hudson for taking on the boundary umpiring for the minis. Junior Colts - The kids were slow to get going against Kalangadoo kicking 7 points before we managed to snag a goal, mainly due to the pressure of the Kalangadoo boys well done to them, but at the end of the day recorded a good win. I was maybe a little hard on them at half time as I thought too many were relying on someone else to do the hard work. The boys have set a high standard in games previous and just assumed that things would take care of themselves. In the end the coach should have paid more attention to the score board as we had 27 scoring shots to 2! Our 1st best player award went to Alex Spehr (Denton’s award) who played both CHB and CHF to dominate in both positions and finish with 2 goals. Nick Waring (Subway award)is improving with each game and is starting to show he will be a very good ruckman in years to come with some great tap work to give us first use of the ball and was named our 2nd best player. Harry Coote (Stumpy award) was named 3rd best player providing great run from half back before finishing the game on the ball showing some very good skills delivering the ball to his team mates with both hand and foot. Luke Macgregor (Ladies Committee award) was our 4th best and as normal delivered a very good game collecting many possessions at both ends of the ground, tackling hard and kicking 2 goals. Sam Gray (Sport & Rec award)  was our 5th best with a solid game making the most of every opportunity he got. Sam followed up his kicks and handballs many times to either get the ball back or help a team mate out which is something we have worked a lot on at training, well done Sam. Senior Colts – The senior colts played a very strong online casino Kalangadoo side last week and put in a fantastic four quarter effort that was full of determination and guts. Our undermanned side fought hard all day to eventually go down by 9 goals but the boys could be happy with their overall performance. Mitch Pulmer (Denton’s award) was best again and is playing some inspired football at present. Hamish Smith (Ducky’s award) was second best and provided a contest at Centre Half forward all day. Patrick Fabris Stumpy award) while undersized did a fantastic job at Full Back and was named third best. Lewis Walker (Ladies Committee award)  provided plenty of run from his wing and was fourth best while Blake Bowman (Sport & Rec award) tackled hard for the whole day and was fifth best. The boys now look to playing an important game against Mount Burr and will be primed for the clash. B Grade – They say a week in footy is a long time, well it proved itself this week as we were depleted by numbers through injury to the A grade and B grade. This was a week that the players got a few truths about their dedication and discipline towards each other so we played a couple of kids in Sam Kent and Mitch Pulmer which showed they are more than capable of stepping up. We also played Shane Bradley and Matt Bowman that have had no trainings and they showed they could be handy inclusions if they trained and committed for the remainder of the year. With Brads marking strongly and showing the crowd and then dribbling the ball off the boot he gave us a target up forward as well as Bowie until biting his lip and needing stitches! Injuries to Jason Uzzel found we had no bench but overall our efforts were a lot better than previous weeks and we should of pinched a win but fell short. Best players were Tom Waring (Prince of Wales award) in the ruck doing as he was asked,  Shane Lambert (Beaurepaires/Ginos award)) on his wing getting plenty of the ball,  Michael Gibson (Millicent Toyota award) running everywhere and playing a good game under the weather from the night before and captain Luke Haines (Thursday Tea award) leading the way again. Now with a week off which is more than needed we head to the Burr to take on another improved B grade side so stick together and work hard and that first win is just around the corner. A Grade -  Not a great day last Saturday suffering our biggest defeat for the year so far going down by 8 goals. 2 more injuries from last week and 2 more at training has depleted our side thus far, but all credit to those who pulled the jumper on and gave it their all. Kalangadoo have certainly improved with a good balance of young & old and proved too strong. Hopefully we will get a few back this week for another tough encounter today with the Burr. Matt Fabris (Somerset award) was terrific with his run and attack on the ball,  Jase Bateman (Prince of Wales award) ran and ran all day, Brad Wight (Tony Egan’s award) played well down back on Kilsby then presented well up forward later on, Watto  (Taxi/Ginos award) was very consistent again and Ferg and Sully had good games. Calcutta Results – 1st -  Matt Fabris, 2nd -  Jase Bateman, 3rd - Brad Wight.
